The International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) is an organisation which centers on the promotion of illuminating innovation education and the acknowledgment of freelance professional lighting designers. Those fully independent designers who fit the demands for professional membership in the association commonly add the abbreviation IALD to their name.

The Professional Lighting Designers Association (PLDA), at one time titled ELDA is an organization concentrating on the advancement of the professing of Architectural Lighting Design. They release a monthly newssheet and organize various events throughout the world.
